Dr. Vicki LeBlanc obtained her PhD in 2001 in experimental psychology from the Psychology Department at McMaster University. Dr. LeBlanc's dissertation work, under the supervision of Drs. Lee R. Brooks and Geoffrey R. Norman, investigated the role of context in perception. Specifically, she investigated how the diagnostic hypotheses of medical students and clinicians influence their identification of visual clinical signs from patients. Dr. LeBlanc has taught courses in cognitive psychology, visual information processing, statistics, research design and simulation-based learning.
Her current program of research explores the effects of acute stress responses on performance in the domains of paramedic services, police services, trauma resuscitations, critical care, and social work. She also conducts research into gaining a better understanding into the role of simulation modalities for clinical teaching and evaluation.
Dr. LeBlanc is currently Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry, the Department of Medicine and the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work; and Educational Scientist II at the Wilson Centre.
