Qualitative Research Refined: Design/Execution/Analysis
An Intermediate Program in Qualitative Health Professions Education Research
October 17-20, 2011
The Wilson Centre
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The Wilson Centre is proud to present “Qualitative Research Refined”, a four-day intensive program in qualitative education research, designed with the intermediate qualitative researcher in mind.

• The Wilson Centre has one of the largest concentrations in the world of qualitative researchers in the health research field.
• Our qualitative researchers represent diverse theoretical, disciplinary and methodological perspectives.

Program
Over the course of 4 days and through a combination of didactic and interactive sessions, participants will have the opportunity to explore the intricacies and nuances of several different qualitative methodological approaches. From an understanding of founding philosophies and traditions to data collection and analysis, participants will work collaboratively with facilitators to extend their expertise towards increasingly sophisticated and high-quality qualitative research.

This program is designed for both:
• Experienced researchers from education research centres and programs who want to “hone” their ongoing qualitative research practice.
• Individuals from the broad medical education research community with experience doing qualitative research in a collaborative research team who wish to embark on more independent research work in the paradigm.

Goal
Develop improved understanding and skills in qualitative research design and implementation.

Objectives
1. Participants will gain familiarity with the premises and theories that underpin qualitative research.
2. Participants will develop an understanding of 3-4 methodological approaches to qualitative research.
3. Participants will build skills in qualitative data collection and analysis.
4. Participants will increase their skills in the design of qualitative research and its publication.
